Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about acceptance rates, admissions data, and calculator methodology.
How is a college acceptance rate calculated?
A college acceptance rate is calculated by dividing the total number of admitted students by the total number of applicants received during that admissions cycle, and multiplying the result by 100. For example, if a university receives 50,000 applications and admits 2,500 students, the acceptance rate is (2,500 / 50,000) * 100 = 5.0%.
Where does your college admissions data come from?
All admissions statistics, applicant volumes, and 25th-75th test score percentiles on Acceptance Rate Calculator are curated from official U.S. Department of Education datasets (NCES IPEDS) and certified institutional Common Data Set (CDS) reports.
What is the difference between acceptance rate and yield rate?
Acceptance rate measures the percentage of applicants an institution admits. Yield rate measures the percentage of admitted students who ultimately enroll. For instance, Harvard admits ~3.4% of applicants (acceptance rate), and approximately 84% of those admitted choose to attend (yield rate).
Does this calculator require an account or email signup?
No. Unlike legacy admissions platforms that gatekeep estimates behind mandatory registration or lead-generation forms, Acceptance Rate Calculator is completely free, client-side, and requires zero user signup.
